Educational Conference
A two-day educational conference presenting speakers and sessions
focused on more effective ways of educating the African American
student.
Drawing
upon AAALs curriculum, and years of experience offering
enrichment programs, the conference has established itself as
the key way the community can gather to discuss strategies that
improve educational performance. Because we believe education
is a holistic process, the conference also offers session tracks
geared to parents and older youth. Our attendees come from throughout
the metropolitan area, including St. Paul, Minneapolis, Osseo,
and other suburban districts. (Get
information about the 2007 conference.)
Trainings
Training content geared to three specific audiences: educators,
parents, and youth. Trainnings build upon the content delivered
during the conference with the goal of featuring hands-on, interactive
content that is detailed.
These trainings are an experiential learning opportunity. (Find
out more about training opportunities.)

Summer School
In the summer AAAL hosts its Summer Cultural
Enrichment Program, fun-filled activities centered on learning about African
culture and values for children ages 5 ½ to 12. During the program children
participate in African dance, drumming, art, learning the Swahili language,
storytelling, and much more. The 2007 program is taking place at the Greater
Council Of Churches’ Center For Families in Minneapolis. If you are
interested in learning about the 2008 enrichment program or any of AAAL’s
other student programming call 612-827-3727.
Community
Gatherings
AAAL hosts special events, designed
to bring together people to celebrate and discuss
issues related to the African-American education experience.
AAAL's annual Kwaanza celebration is a long-established December
tradition in the community.
School Immersion
In order to create real change in the classroom, AAAL offers to
work with schools to enrich classroom activities with our enrichment
materials, methodologies, and strategies that affirm and build
self-confidence among African American students. The school immersion
program is designed to introduce units of AAAL curriculum into
schools, one classroom and one teacher at a time, in order to
demonstrate the effectiveness of the enrichment programming in
helping students achieve.
